Yamato is just a classic. I’d love to build another one, but next time I’d go ballistic with LED lighting.

This is my 1:500 model, with the familiar grey upper hull and red underside. The tiered bridge, gun turrets and large stern engine give it its distinctive outline.

A little background

Yamato is the central ship of the Japanese Space Battleship Yamato series. Its naval shape carries into space, giving the vessel a silhouette that is quite different from the industrial ships elsewhere in my collection. Bandai’s 1:500 Yamato range reproduces the ship’s bridge, hull and weapons in considerable detail.
