Nostromo: a long search
Alien (1979) · Nostromo · Cast resin
I’d been looking for a Nostromo model for many, many years. When I finally found one, it was half-painted, in bad shape and made from cast resin. I suspect it was a recast of an earlier kit, though I haven’t confirmed its origins.
I really don’t enjoy working with old-style cast resin. The quality of this one was rough, and it reminded me why I prefer working with printed parts. But my goal is to collect all the human spacecraft from the Alien films, so I had to bite the bullet.

A little background
The Nostromo is the commercial towing vessel from Ridley Scott’s Alien (1979). It hauls a vast refinery through space with a crew of seven, before a mysterious transmission interrupts their journey home. Film background ↗
The filming miniature was built by Bill Pearson and Martin Bower, with visual effects supervised by Brian Johnson and Nick Allder. Its dense machinery and weathered surfaces give it the appearance of a working industrial ship. Miniature background ↗
The original photographs show my finished model. The three AI-generated images place it in landscapes inspired by the Nostromo’s landing on LV-426.
