Nautilus and the giant squid

Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

What shall I say? A gorgeous model, and I think these were my first experiments with LEDs. The build was easy. Painting it was a learning curve.

My Nautilus sits above a rocky base, with the giant squid’s tentacles reaching around the hull. The warm lighting picks out the large observation window and the smaller lamps.

A little background

Nautilus is Captain Nemo’s submarine in Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. This angular interpretation belongs to the Pegasus Hobbies design by Greg deSantis, whose kit pairs the submarine with a giant-squid display base. It is a model interpretation of Verne’s vessel rather than the familiar Disney film design.
