Harkonnen ornithopter

The Harkonnen ornithopter was my first Chinese model kit, and I was very impressed. Like Gunpla, it goes together without glue. The injection moulding is very good.

I’ve shown it on a sandy base with its long wing blades folded back along the body. The close-up photographs show the cockpit and the mechanisms around the wing joints.

A little background

Ornithopters are the wing-beating aircraft of Dune, used to travel across Arrakis. The film designs combine a cockpit and mechanical body with long, insect-like wings. Territory Studio’s work on the films included the ornithopter cockpit displays, using the flight sequences to inform their motion.
